Deadly Diva Day 2020 - Broome
On the 19th of November Garnduwa hosted our annual Deadly Diva Day event in Broome. We had 5 organisations come down to run rotating workshops for over 50 girls.
Firstly, 2020 Kimberley Girl Tallulah Bieundurry kicked off the session with an icebreaker and a meet and greet. Then we had Katina and Tori from Her Rules Her Game & KPHU deliver a session on sexual health, followed by a session on sugary drinks and their impact on our overall health from Boab Health Services & Cancer Council Western Australia.
Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service delivered a session on social and emotional wellbeing, next to a deadly workshop from Byfh Drop In, where the girls made their own face and body scrubs and had a discussion about self-care.
Thanks to Lexi, Sheena and Jess from AKG and KMHDS for having a yarn about the impacts of drug and alcohol, and finally to Tara Gower and Crystal for our dance session! Thanks to Yawuru for our delicious lunch.
Our Women in Sport Coordinator Kath Dann spoke to the girls about her recent experience overcoming her fears, and growing into a more confident person. She gave a prize to any girl that was happy to stand up and share a time she had gone outside of her comfort zone this year. Diva Day is all about bringing girls together in a safe place to be ourselves, build confidence and form good relationships with ourselves, service providers and the girls in our community. Til next year!
