2020 Bunjiman Carnival

The 2020 Bunjiman Carnival was held over the first weekend of October this year in collaboration with the Central Kimberley Football League. Garnduwa staff travelled from Broome, Derby, Kununurra and Halls Creek to support the carnival, umpiring, mentoring and coordinating the day.

It was awesome to see the fire and passion of Central Kimberley mob reignited throughout the carnival, as it’s been a tough year away from footy.

Garnduwa hosted Roger Hayden & Roxy Roux from the Freo Dockers, who came as role models & as part of Fremantle’s Next Generation Academy. Roxy and Roger umpired games, had a yarn with locals about pathways & gave advice about training and injury prevention. Roxy and Roger also handed out special mentions & chose the men and women’s Best on Ground for the Grand Finals.

People travelled from across the Kimberley to compete, making up four men and women’s teams including: Jinbakudanj Lightning, WKJD Tigers, Muludja Lionesses', Bayulu Bulldogs, Moongardie Suns, 8 Mile Giants, Loanbun Tigers, and the Wangkatjungka Crows.

WKJD Tigers took out the women’s Grand Final & Loanbun Tigers took out the men’s.

Garnduwa role model Krstel Petrevski, accompanied us to the carnival, umpiring, spending time with family and supporting footy in the Kimberley. Originally from Halls Creek, Krstel now plays for the Melbourne Demons and has recently spent time in Perth playing for the Claremont Tigers. Over the next month, Krstel will be working for Garnduwa in Halls Creek, running footy and basketball in town before she heads back to Melbourne for pre-season.

A big shoutout to all Garnduwa staff for the hard work, to Geoff and Marmingee from the CKFL for relentless optimism and enthusiasm running footy in the Central Kimberley, and to Eamon Rice from the WAFC for working tirelessly!

And of course, our umpires!
