Garnduwa welcomes Huntar: The Kullarri regions new active communities coordinator

We sat down with Huntar to learn about the journey that led her to the Kullarri role, and what her aspirations are for the regions sport and recreation programming.

Huntar brings years of experience engaging residents in remote communities in the Northern Territory

Where is home for you?

I am originally from Sydney NSW and moved to Darwin in January 2023 where I travelled between about 10 different remote communities.

Tell us about your sport and rec history?

I have played sport my whole life, from Swimming to Rugby League, and OzTag. Whilst studying, I completed 2 internships with Cricket NSW and Excel Sports Management. Both these internships gave me the opportunity to enjoy my love for sport whilst working.

And what about in the professional space?

I completed a degree in Sports Management and Public Relations. Most of my professional experience is in Indigenous engagement from my previous employer True North Strategic Communication. I had a range of clients across northern Australia who I was able to act as a link between them and remote communities through consultation.

Each piece of work I was proud of the voice and message I was able to pass forward that would go on to impact community members every day lives.

What has motivated you to join Garnduwa and lead the Kullarri regions sport and recreation programming?

Garnduwa allows be to bring both my passions together into a job I enjoy. Sport and indigenous engagement.

What is your vision for the Kimberley Active Communities Project in the Kullarri region?

My vision is to create healthy competition for every child against them self. Educating children to work hard for themselves in everything they do.

Over time, I am looking forward to seeing the real impact and development of the kids attending each session.
