Grassroots Democracy - AEC and YLab deliver youth program in Broome

Voting is important, and all of us can make a difference.

Over two days, First Nations young people from across the nation are taking part in Deadly Democracy, a First Nations youth program that builds participant’s skills and networks and encourages them to lead change in their communities.

Garnduwa has a proud partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission and we’re pleased to support First Nations young people to increase enrolment, voter turnout, networking opportunities and employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Delivered by YLab Global in partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission, the program encourages young people aged 18-29 to yarn about self-determination and democracy.

The benefits of the workshop include connecting with mob from around the country, supporting community action and realising the importance and impact that voting can have on our people, and creating a fair and just society for Aboriginal people.

Day one of the workshop started with a yarning circle, where youth from around the nation joined each other via videoconference to introduce themselves, their country and family, and share their inspirations and passions.

Further information on employment opportunities will be provided by AEC representatives during the workshop. Garnduwa supports the program and provided space for the workshop at the Garnduwa office in Broome.
