Aboriginal Mental Health Training

Over the past five weeks, our Indigenous staff in the Broome office have been completing the Kimberley Empowerment, Healing and Leadership Program with the KAMS LTD. Social and Emotional Well-Being Unit

The KEHLP Program, which is specifically designed for Kimberley Aboriginal people, has given our staff the tools to engage with communities better and be the best possible role models to our young mob in communities.

Congratulations Tom, Amanda and Carl on becoming facilitators; obtaining their ‘train the trainer’ accreditation, and to Jordan for completing the course. Thankyou KAMS for providing our staff with fantastic learning opportunities in the Social and Emotional Wellbeing space.

Following KEHLP, Amanda and Carl completed the Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid training from KAMS, alongside co-worker Liv and a number of other people working in the Indigenous community engagement space in Broome. The two day training provided our staff with an overview of mental health issues facing Kimberley Aboriginal people from a local and culturally appropriate viewpoint.

Garnduwa are committed to ensuring we use our connection with Kimberley people and Aboriginal communities to spread awareness around mental health through sport.
